HURILAWS utilizes regional and international mechanisms for protecting and promoting human rights and they include The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the UN treaty mechanisms amongst other international bodies.
HURILAWS is party to various international treaties, but due to dualistic legal means of ratification and domestication by Acts of the National Assembly, most of these treaties are nit operative in Nigeria.
HURILAWS promoted platforms to create linkages in the NGO community. HURILAWS organized a West African Human Rights Consultative Forum and collaborated with the Civil Liberties Organization [CLO] in hosting an African Democracy Forum (ADF) in Abuja in July 2001.
HURILAWS is also a member of various Nigerian Coalitions on Budget, Violence against Women, Electoral Reform etc.
